Kitty is getting married... here is her wedding diary...
2. “Engaged/Occupied/Busy…”
I am engaged! I have a fiancé! I am a fiancée!
When I say the words in my head I am filled with extreme excitement but when I try to utter them out loud something stops me! “This is my fiancé.” YUK. Perhaps I could try another phrase but one flick through the dictionary and my only options are “a betrothed woman” - that won’t do. Well I shall avoid all reference in that case and just use “engaged”. The dictionary confirms it; definition of engaged: “occupied” or “busy”. Well, I certainly shall be both those things, after all I have a dress AND shoes to find…
One surprise engagement party later and I have reconciled any issues I had with the terminology, as I tirelessly announce my engagement to each guest who arrives and introduce my fiancéeeeeeeeeee. On what might be the fiftieth declaration, my fiancé, clearly deciding our guests need rescuing from me and me from myself, suggests I swap my glass of champagne for a glass of sparkling water and I oblige.
After all I am far too busy being a fiancée to question his influence; being engaged is more than enough to keep me occupied.
